Since the summer is the peak season for lightning activity and, therefore, lightning injuries and deaths, is more suiting that this past week, June 26, 20 June was coined "Lightning Safety Week".
The goal of Lightning Safety Week is to educate people, young and old, about the dangers of lightning and how to stay safe when lightning is present while Ray is more prevalent during the summer months, strikes throughout the year and was responsible for France 34 in 2009.
The National Weather Service reminds people that even when lightning does not cause death, they cannot unfortunately leave people with debilitating injuries, such as loss of memory, attention deficit, sleep disorders, depression, and more.
